Fee schedule for domain name / site hosting
at the Canada Garden VPS-1 Server
running on Linux
with a super-fast access SSD (solid-state disk)

Effective 01 Jan 2016

Our service is attractive to the client who wants to host one or a few sites at a very low cost, or a lot of sites at a very reasonable cost. Other hosting companies often have attractive hosting plans for a single domain/site, but these fees add up quickly for a client that has many sites.

We serve 3 types of client
Client type 1
Resources, site details, and content manager
Client type 2
Site details and content manager
Client type 3
Content manager
You like to manage everything yourself. You like to create/modify/delete whole domains/sites on your own, and you like to manage the details (like e-mail addresses, subdomains, FTP accounts) within each domain/site.

You will need to be (or become) familiar with the Plesk control panel for creating and modifying whole sites, and with the Plesk control panel for managing the details of each site.

“Allocate the resources to me, and I’ll do the rest.”
You want us to set up the domains/sites, but you like to manage the details (like e-mail addresses, subdomains, FTP accounts) within each domain/site.

You will need to be (or become) familiar with the Plesk control panel for managing the details of each site.

“Please set up my sites and resources, and I’ll do the rest.”
You want us to set up the domains/sites and the details (like e-mail addresses, subdomains, FTP accounts) within each domain/site.

“Please hold my hand. I don’t want to study all this technical stuff.”
Please note that in all cases, you must create or supply your own Web content if the site is to be viewable, and you must upload such content to the site, typically via FTP or the control panel’s file manager. However, some domains/sites are just used for e-mail or file backup and are not intended to be viewed.
At the technical level, each of these 3 types of client is set up exactly the same way, and therefore a client can readily be switched (upon request) to another client type.

The following charges are per month, in USD (see next paragraph), on the total resources allocated to all your hosted sites. Therefore, you can host a lot of sites and split up your resources very finely among them. Furthermore, the flexible Plesk software allows us to allocate a total pool of resources to you in such a way that you don’t even have to (but you can) decide in advance, as sites are being created, how to divide the resources among them. The resources can be dynamically available to all your sites, to be used as needed, limited only by your total resources allocated.

Our normal currency is USD because so much of the Internet operates in USD. However, we accept many other currencies, especially CAD, GBP, and EUR, at an appropriate conversion rate. At our discretion, we sometimes accept CAD as equal to USD, depending on actual exchange rates and on how our suppliers are charging us.

Resource Client type 1 Client type 2 Client type 3
Domain name / site hosted No charge per item, do it yourself. One flat $10 monthly fee for all your domains (sites and aliases). $2.00 each monthly. $2.00 each monthly.
Domain name aliased No charge, do it yourself. See above.

Must be aliased to one of your hosted domains/sites on this server.
$0.50 each monthly.

Must be aliased to one of your hosted domains/sites on this server.
E-mail addresses No charge. No charge. No monthly charge, but a one-time $2 fee (for our work) for each add/update/delete of an e-mail address.
E-mail address notes Unlimited number of e-mail addresses (hosted and aliased) at your domain name.

Hosted e-mail addresses (SMTP/POP3/IMAP and Webmail accessible) share your disk space and bandwidth. Alias e-mail addresses (redirected/forwarded to elsewhere) share your bandwidth. An alias e-mail address can be redirected to multiple destinations (“fanout”). Furthermore, an e-mail address can be hosted and redirected at the same time.
Unique IPv4 addresses $12.00 each monthly. You don’t need any if you are willing to share the server’s IPv4 address, which is suitable for most hosting needs nowadays.
Unique IPv6 addresses Our offering of IPv6 addresses has not yet been finalized, and the Internet world seems to be moving toward IPv6 at a very sluggish pace.
Hard disk space $1.00 monthly per 1 GB allocated (even if you don’t use all of it). Minimum allocation is 1 GB ($1.00), increment is 0.5 GB ($0.50).

Your disk space is a single allocation for all your sites, and can thus be flexibly used without intervention, but you can also limit the disk space used by the individual sites.

And remember, our hard disk is a super-fast access SSD (solid-state disk).
Bandwidth (data transfer) $1.00 monthly per 50 GB allocated (even if you don’t use all of it). Minimum allocation is 50 GB ($1.00), increment is 25 GB ($0.50). Overage in a given month is $0.50 per 10 GB, so if in doubt, you are better off allocating sufficient bandwidth in advance at the lower per GB rate.

Your bandwidth is a single allocation for all your sites, and can thus be flexibly used without intervention.
Plesk control panel Included at no charge. Included at no charge. Included at no charge.
Minimum total of all the above $12.00 monthly, or charged as client type 2 if that is lower. $4.00 monthly. $4.00 monthly.

The above table means that the minimum cost for hosting a single domain/site is $4 per month. Hosting a number of sites greatly reduces the cost per site for any client type. Note that a client type 1 with a low number of sites hosted will be charged as a client type 2 if this results in a lower charge.

Also, if you anticipate bandwidth overage, you’ll see from the numbers above that you are much better off allocating (and paying for) additional bandwidth in advance.

Note regarding WHM/cPanel versus Plesk: While WHM/cPanel is indisputably the world’s most popular control panel, Plesk (by Parallels) is definitely the world’s best control panel, and does also have quite a following. We have had our abundant share of experiences with both, and we’d rather not ever see WHM/cPanel again. Furthermore, even customers who had been insisting on WHM/cPanel found themselves becoming very comfortable with Plesk much more quickly than we expected.
